William Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a French academic painter renowned for his realistic depictions of the human form. His work was characterised by its lifelike quality, attention to detail, and sentimental subject matter. He was heavily influenced by the Renaissance masters and the works of the Old Masters, and his style was considered to be a modern interpretation of Classical art. His paintings were highly sought after in his lifetime, and his works remain popular today.
