Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres was a French Neoclassical painter who is best known for his portraits, historical paintings, and drawings. He was an important precursor to the modernist movement and his works have had a profound influence on generations of artists. He was a master of the neoclassical style and is considered to be one of the greatest portrait painters of all time. His works are characterised by their expressiveness, vivid colours, and attention to detail.
