Sanford Robinson Gifford (1823-1880) was a renowned American landscape painter of the Hudson River School. He was known for his romanticised, detailed and often poetic depictions of the American wilderness. His works were highly sought after during his lifetime and continue to be admired and collected today. Gifford's paintings capture the grandeur and beauty of America's natural landscape and his masterful use of light and colour have made him one of the most respected artists of the 19th century.
