John Frederick Kensett was an American painter and printmaker known for his luminous landscapes of the northeastern United States. His work was part of the Hudson River School, a mid-19th century movement of landscape painters. His paintings were characterised by their soft and subtle colour palette, as well as their delicate light and atmospheric effects. He was a master of the etching process and produced some of the most beautiful fine art prints of his era.
