He was a leader of the Neo-Impressionist movement and his works are characterised by their luminous colours, bold brushstrokes, and use of pointillism. His works often featured landscapes, still lifes, and scenes of rural life. His works are highly sought after and are considered to be some of the most important works of the Post-Impressionist era.
