Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900) was an American landscape painter, best known for his large-scale paintings of the natural beauty of the United States. His works are characterised by their luminous colours and detailed depictions of nature. He was a leading member of the Hudson River School of painters, and his works are considered some of the finest examples of 19th century American landscape painting.
