George Romney (1734-1802) was an English portrait painter and one of the foremost portraitists of the 18th century. He was a close friend of the poet William Wordsworth and a major influence on the development of British art. Romney's works are known for their sensitive use of colour and light, and his subjects often appear in a dreamlike state. His portraits were highly sought after in his lifetime, and his fine art prints remain popular today.
