Giovanni Paolo Panini (1691-1765) was an Italian artist and architect from Rome, best known for his grandiose and detailed vedute, or views of the city. His works are characterised by their sweeping perspectives, lively details, and a masterful manipulation of light and atmosphere. Panini's works are considered some of the finest examples of the genre, and have been widely reproduced in fine art prints and posters.
