French Artist, 1699 - 1779
Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin (1699-1779) was a French painter of the Rococo and Neoclassical periods. He is best known for his still life and genre paintings, which depict everyday life in a direct and unpretentious manner. Chardin's work is characterised by its quiet, harmonious composition and subtle use of colour. His paintings are considered to be some of the finest examples of 18th-century French painting.
