Gabriel Metsu (1629-1667) was a Dutch painter and etcher of the Dutch Golden Age. He is best known for his genre paintings, which depict scenes of everyday life in the 17th century, often with a humorous twist. Metsu was also a skilled portraitist and his works are characterised by their delicate brushwork and subtle use of colour. His works can be found in many major museums and galleries around the world, and his prints are highly sought after by collectors.
