Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) was a Swiss painter who is best known for his symbolist landscapes and portraits. He was a pioneer of modern art in Switzerland and was a major influence on the development of modernism in Europe. His works often feature bold colours and strong lines, and he is widely regarded as one of the most important Swiss painters of the 19th century. His works can be found in many major museums around the world.
