Henry Raeburn (1756-1823) was a Scottish portrait painter, best known for his atmospheric portraits of Scotland's elite. He was a master at capturing the mood of his subjects, often using the natural light of his native country to create a sense of intimacy and drama. His work was admired by both the public and the royal family, and his portraits are now considered iconic works of 18th century Scottish art.
