George Gower (1540-1596) was an English portrait painter who served as Serjeant-Painter to Queen Elizabeth I. He is best known for his iconic portraits of the Queen, which helped to shape her image as the Virgin Queen. His work has been praised for its attention to detail, and he is considered one of the most important portrait painters of the Elizabethan era.
