Arnold Böcklin (1827-1901) was a Swiss Symbolist painter who produced a wide variety of works in his lifetime, including landscapes, portraits, and allegorical works. His paintings are characterised by their dream-like, fantastical quality, often featuring mysterious figures and scenes from Greek mythology. He was a major influence on the Symbolism movement, and his works remain hugely popular in the form of fine art prints.
