John Henry Twachtman (1853-1902) was an American Impressionist painter who is known for his landscapes and marine scenes. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and studied at the McMicken School of Design. He was a student of Frank Duveneck and was a member of the group of artists known as The Ten. Twachtman's work, which is characterized by subtle colours and soft brushwork, was heavily influenced by the Barbizon school of painting.
