William Orpen
1878 - 1931
William Orpen (1878-1931) was an Irish portrait painter, best known for his post-World War I paintings of the peace negotiations at Versailles. He was a leading member of the New English Art Club, and his works are held in collections around the world. His portraits are remarkable for their psychological insight, and his landscapes are characterised by a masterful use of light.
