Edward Lear (1812-1888) was an English artist, illustrator, and poet, known for his whimsical and humorous works. He was a master of the limerick and is credited with popularising the form. His illustrations, which often featured animals, landscapes, and other natural scenes, were widely admired. He was also a renowned traveller, having visited many places in Europe, the Middle East, and India. His artworks are still widely collected and admired today.
