Duccio di Buoninsegna (c. 1255–1319) was an Italian painter and the founder of the Sienese School of painting. He is considered to be one of the greatest Italian painters of the Medieval period and his works are highly sought after today. His most famous work is the Maestà, a large altarpiece commissioned by the city of Siena in 1308, which is now housed in the Siena Cathedral. Duccio's artworks are renowned for their rich colours, intricate details, and expressive figures, and can be found in many of the world's most renowned museums and galleries.
