Gerrit Dou (1613-1675) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and printmaker known for his highly detailed, small-scale works. He was a student of Rembrandt and was part of a group of Dutch artists known as the Leiden fijnschilders, or “fine painters”, who specialised in the meticulous rendering of everyday objects. His works are characterised by their luminous colour, delicate brushwork, and exquisite detail. Gerrit Dou’s prints are highly sought after by collectors of fine art prints.
