Theodore Chasseriau (1819-1856) was a French painter and sculptor of the Romantic period. He is best known for his large-scale history paintings, which combined a neoclassical style with vivid colours and dynamic compositions. Chasseriau was also a highly skilled portraitist, and his works ranged from religious scenes to landscapes and genre scenes.
