John Constable
1776 - 1837
John Constable (1776-1837) was an English Romantic painter who is best known for his landscape paintings of the English countryside. His works are characterised by their naturalistic approach, with an emphasis on the effects of light and atmosphere. Constable was a major influence on the development of English landscape painting, and his works are among the most popular of all British paintings. He is remembered for his use of expressive brushwork and his attention to detail, which helped him to capture the beauty of the English countryside.
