Thomas Cole

Thomas Cole (1801-1848) was an American artist who is considered the founder of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. He is best known for his romantic depictions of the American wilderness, which helped to popularise the country's landscape painting and established the genre of landscape art. His work has been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe, and his paintings are held in major collections throughout the world.
