Emile Claus (1849-1924) was a Belgian painter and printmaker known for his Impressionist and Symbolist works. His paintings often depicted scenes of everyday life in the Belgian countryside, but his prints often featured more abstracted and dreamlike imagery. His works are characterised by their bright colours, delicate brushwork, and use of light. Claus is considered one of the most important Belgian painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
